The next time you want to judge a band by their album cover or by what religion they affiliate themselves with, take a look at Family Force 5. Going into this interview, I was going to write them off as a Christian rock band that was going to be lame and, afterwards, we can all get on our way. FF5 left me shocked with how much of a great experience they gave their fans. It is one thing to have a great stage show and maybe some kick-ass lights but the band spent the whole second slot for the opening band doing a karaoke bit. Giving the fans a chance to live out their dreams of getting on the stage and being a rock star. If anything I walked away from this show with a sense that in this economy the bar has been truly raised. It is not enough for a band to just walk on stage and play their songs anymore and FF5 gets that.
Have you ever went into a situation where you knew the person you were going to meet you didn’t like and you were going to let them know? That was how I was going to treat the infamously sleazy band Blood On the Dance Floor, as a fan of good music and a person who tends to have slightly feminist views I was hesitant to take the BOTDF assignment, afraid of what I might say. We spent about an hour on they’re bus with Dahvie Vanity, which was an eye opening experience into what’s really going on with this band. Dahvie knew what was coming; he knew that we weren’t going to go easy on him so he laid it on thick. Free merch, free drinks, sitting in his heated bus all smiles and giggles, anything that he had to do to get on our good side.
Believe it or not Dahvie Vanity knows exactly what he’s doing, he is a businessman. They know the power that they have over the youth, whether or not they use that power wisely is a whole different question.
Do you remember a few years ago when you couldn’t swing a dead cat without hearing Ohio is for Lovers? Well I do and that is why I was apprehensive to give them another chance after writing them off as a flavor of the week band. Hawthorne Heights is back now and they are ready to show that they can be more than what you thought. In this interview we talk about everything from what touring is like now to their new music video.
After a long hiatus from playing music and pretty much doing anything really, Wayne Static is out and touring, supporting his first solo album, Pig Hammer. But don’t let the fact that he is doing his solo album fool you, Wayne is not trying to shy away from the years of Static-X like most musicians do when they branch out on their own. He will be the first to tell you he is the one who wrote the songs so this is why he played mostly Static-X songs live and only 3 songs from the new album. One of which featured his wife Tara and two of her friends, dancing in outfits that would barely be enough fabric to make a bikini with. Despite how you feel about this sudden addition of the old ball and chain, Pig Hammer is an album for a fan looking for an old school Static sound.
This band is a metal juggernaut that is only going to get more popular each time they release a new album. When I meet up with the bassist Sharlee who, yes, does seem intimidating and huge but is actually really nice; you don’t have to be metal all the time. I talk with him about what it’s like coming to America and seeing what it’s like when we rock out to metal. We also talk about their contest winners and everything else that is new and upcoming with Arch Enemy that you have come to expect from MIB magazine.
Fresh off of the stage, join Karacell and Colin, the crazy bassist of The Brains as they do their best to explore all of the aspects of the band. This is truly an exclusive interview because we caught them on one of the few US dates before immigration trouble forced them to go back to Canada. Not to worry, they truly do love their fans and they make it very clear every time they walk on the stage. There are plenty of high quality pictures of this band for you to feel like you are front and center.
